What To Do When You Get Locked Out Of Your Car In The Winter

Posted on

Getting locked out of your car can happen to the best of us. It can be easy, when you are grabbing your gloves, hat and purse, to accidently leave your keys inside of your vehicle. If you get locked out of your vehicle in the winter time, here is what you need to do.

Call for Assistance

The first thing that you need to do is call for assistance. If you have roadside assistance through your insurance company, call up your insurance company and let them know that you locked yourself out. They will send a lockout service company to assist you.

If you do not have roadside assistance, look up lockout services on your smart phone. Lockout services are companies that specialize in getting you back into your vehicle without harming your vehicle. They will send someone out to your location immediately so that you are able to get back in your vehicle.

Go Somewhere Safe

Second, once you call for assistance and know that help is on the way, you need to go somewhere where you will be safe. You should not stand outside of your vehicle in the cold for half an hour waiting for help to arrive, especially if it is dark outside. You need to go somewhere where you can be safe.

Presumable, you can go back to wherever you were before. If you were at a shopping mall, go back inside. If you were at a restaurant, let them know what happened and see if you can sit at a table or sit in the waiting area for assistance to arrive. Most places will allow you to sit and wait for help.

Let the company that is coming to help you know what is happening. Let them know where you will be at so they can easily find you when they arrive.

Talk to The Worker

Third, talk to the worker who shows up to fix your vehicle. Make sure that you come back outside when they are getting into your vehicle. Watch and see how they get into your vehicle. That way, you can see how they get in and witness any damage that your vehicle may take. Once they get you inside of your vehicle, be sure to find your keys before they leave. If your keys are not in the vehicle, you may need a tow or assistance getting a key made, both tasks that they should be able to help you with.

The key to getting through a lockout in the winter is to find a safe and warm place you can wait until help can arrive to assist you. Contact a service, like Jim's Garage Inc, for more help.
